This was my first suspicion but the people getting the replies sent to
the list concerning the original message baffled me...thank you for the
advice.

I suggest the beginning point of this investigation is to ask the
recipients to verify that their server is not filtering messages.  
More often than not, this kind of thing happens due to message filters
such as those used by antivirus programs and spam blockers.
