Try some  test emails directly to him using each of the direct MX hosts
as your SMTP outbound gateway

Query:Mail Exchange (MX):optusnet.com.au
optusnet.com.au MX      100     new-mail.optusnet.com.au
optusnet.com.au MX      25      mail.optusnet.com.au

In lieu:

1) misconfigured MX host (sometimes one of the couple defined will not be
appropriate)

2) fouled up (out of date) NS RR records, which could also affect MX
records (though they seem consistent for this host)

3) a security authorization system that is unavailable certain hrs due to
maintenance which rejects mail

4) an intermediary anti-spam system that "eats" the distribution
