Yes, this is a feasible solution.

However we all forget, I think, about the fact that adding countless
facilities and commands to the server makes the system bigger, slower,
less reliable, more difficult to learn and master.

An alternative could be to design a simple script language - or even
use Perl - for _preprocessing_ of messages incoming to the Listserv
before the Listserv starts its job.

Each list owner could, at his/hers responsibility, implement whatever
functions they want.
