I just tried to set LSTOWN-L to NOACK, and was told

> You are not subscribed to the LSTOWN-L list.

But I _can_ post to the list from this version of my address (as you
can tell because you're reading this).  I'd always assumed that if I
could post to a private list, LISTSERV knew who I was . . .
apparently not.  Why should this be?
