This strikes me as a little draconian . . .

I have a bit of boilerplate I semi-automatically send people who set
oofbots (and not just on my own lists), but I've tried to make it,
um, polite, because most people still have no real idea what the
structure of the net is and don't realize that all the subscribers
to the list are being told, though they don't care, that you've gone
off to a conference . . . and often, once it's been explained,
they're grateful.
