Oh, please, Ron. Such a stupid comment. Majordomo is popular because it's
simple, it's free, and it comes with source. It is good for many
applications, but it is no replacement for LISTSERV. Specifically: when
Majordomo receives any significant number of requests simultaneously, it
forks its host system into thrashing; it zeros subscriber lists regularly,
under circumstances none of its users or authors have been able to
determine; it includes no support for splitting large lists for reasonable
delivery times; its support is by other users, and is often of the "well,
I've got this patch I wrote just now, I'm not using it myself, but why
don't you try it" sort. It is not for the technologically timid, and its
minimalist mindset leaves it bereft of many features that LISTSERV users
have come to expect. Netcom's using Majordomo, in fact using a fossilized
version of Majordomo, is just an example of their wanting to be able to say
"yes, we provide mailing list services," but not being willing to really
support them or put any money behind them. LISTSERV is an entirely
different animal, for entirely different needs and desires.

It's true that someone asking about Majordomo won't get good support on
this list -- this list is about LISTSERV, as you know, making your posting
simple flamebait (and my reply a simple flame :-) ). Why didn't you try to
be at least mildly useful and point the original poster to the right list?
