I'm sure there were some delays attributable to the luv-bug worm: MTA rejecting legitimate email because of broken filter rules, overloaded spools, congestion (sounds like a cold instead of a virus ;-)), the usual "suspects" of misconfigured secondary MTAs (higher numbered MX records) that got used and barfed.
