I entered 'TELNET TSO.UC.EDU 25', and 'VRFY DRECE' and got:
  250 </mail/dr/drece.CIX>
In response to 'VRFY LDBASE-L', I got:
  250 </tech/internet/ldbase-l.CIX>

Both values seem "normal".

I would **not** delete Daryl, since it seems that his E-mail is OK.
I recommend that you send E-mail to [log in to unmask],
and ask for help; perhaps, the "file permissions" have been modified
such that E-mail cannot be appended to the specified file.

Note that the '550' message is probably an indication of a "secondary" problem;
since the host 'TSO.UC.EDU' runs U**X, it's common for U**X to try to
write to the file 'dead.letter' when all else fails.
Why that writing failed is a **second** problem!
