To work around the receiving site's outdated mailer, apply the GWIA update included
in the GroupWise 5.2 Support Pack 3 (GW52SP3A.EXE). See TID #2933732 for
the list of characters no longer translated to their US-ASCII hexadecimal equivalents.
The GWIA 5.2.3 code (in  GW52SP3A.EXE) offers a /NQPMT switch, which
instructs GWIA not to encode the message text if it is 100 percent US ASCII. This
switch is not available from NWADMIN and must be added manually to the
GWIA.CFG file.

Another option is to configure GWIA to send outbound messages in RFC822 format
instead of RFC1521 (MIME) format. This can be accomplished in the following two
ways:

1. Create an external foreign domain with a gateway access string of -RFC822

2. In NWADMIN's GroupWise Gateway/Internet Agent "Advanced Settings" tab, set
"Enable MIME as default for outbound message" to OFF.
