I find that most AOL members don't bother to read the help files in our
Mailing List Area, where we go into detail about managing e-mail volume. I've
recently re-written the docs and expanded the coverage in them, so we'll see
if there are any improvements once the new documentation is installed.
 
AOL allots storage on the host system for 550 pieces of mail per user. In
addition to this storage allotment, AOL members can use FlashSessions to
periodically retrieve unread mail from the AOL host (as often as once an
hour) and store it locally. We also offer local-only USENET echos of several
mailing lists (and I'd be happy to work with *any* list owner who would like
to explore this option; send me private mail for more information).
 
For myself, I immediately delete any AOL subscribers whose mailboxes are
full. If the users cannot be bothered to take the time to read any of the
documentation on how to manage their e-mail, they don't -need- to be members
of my lists (all of which are also echoed locally on USENET).
