We run 1.8c on VM/CMS.  Here is a working example of one possible config:

* Auto-delete= Yes,Semi-Auto,Delay(3),Max(25)

Even though we have lots of bounces, the D.E.M.R. only catches a subset AND
it is certainly worth the trouble of setting it up.  Even with the low
tolerance for auto-deletions, there aren't that many relative to all bounces.
