Sherry's and Ben's suggestions are fine.  An alternative to
jump-start your list next year by e-mailing the then current
subscribers that you are deleting them from the list and
they must resubscribe to join in on the fun.
 
Thus, no "negative" check-offs, no automated renewal
processing, but some number of one-time bounced e-mails.
Make sure your REPLY-TO: for your one-time announcement is
NOT back to the list.
