Sure. Maestro is at its heart an easy-to-use interface to the
LISTSERV DISTRIBUTE command.

Sending a plain text message to recipients pulled from a database is
pretty easy to do with a simple DISTRIBUTE job sent by someone who is
reasonably technical, who understands RFC822 rules, and who does not
use a Microsoft mail client (which has a tendency to mess up even
plain text). For everyone else, there's Maestro.

Depending on the complexity of your needs and tolerance for pain, you
can do most things that Maestro does without Maestro (if you wanted
the tracking, you could always write your own tracking app too). The
goal of Maestro is to eliminate the pain and save a lot of time.
