I looked at the MAILTPL, DELETE1 template.
 
Ours looks like this:
 
>>> DELETE1 &LISTNAME: You were deleted by &WHOM
.re owners
&WEEKDAY, &DATE &TIME
 
You have been removed from the &LISTNAME list (&TITLE) by &MBX(&WHOM).
 
If you requested this, we are glad to be of assistance.  If you
do not know why you were deleted, it is almost certainly because
mail to your address was returned to us as undeliverable.  For
more information, write back to &MBX(&WHOM) or directly to me.

You suggested that I use the &WHOM variable.  Wouldn't this produce the
e-mail address of the person who deleted the person in the subject (as we
already have) rather than the person who *was* deleted.
 
We simply want to replace "You were" with that person's address.
