In order to relieve this restriction, one has to change the format of the
LIST files and all the code that refers to them. In 1.8a most but not all
accesses to the LIST files are made through a set of central PASCAL
routines. As REXX command processors are rewritten in PASCAL, we will
soon have all accesses through these routines and it will be possible to
change the format of the LIST files to implement various improvements.
This however will require an incompatible change to the GET and PUT
commands as it will no longer be possible to describe the LIST file using
the current F 100 format. It is not a very high priority because only
X.400 users are affected in practice, and again in practice this is but
one of the many problems X.400 users are faced with when communicating
with LISTSERV (most of the other problems being outside LISTSERV's
control).
