Oh, I briefly confused it with merge-mail, but your idea about setting the default-options keyword looks promising.

How would I set NOMAIL for a Dynamic Query LDAP list when it is mentioned in Sub-Lists? Would I set Default-Options= NOMAIL?

You could add yourself as the only list member or set everyone to nomail for testing.
