Ummm...just to be clear here...there are two separate suggestions
using the same technical means here...

1) Douglas Palmer's suggestion:  Modify the $SIGNUP form to be the
same as the Welcome Message and then delete the welcome message (i.e.,
listname.WELCOME)...

2) Pete Weiss's suggestion:  Modify the $SIGNUP form to contain .QQ at
the top (or as the only line) which will disable it entirely and cause
Listserv not to send it at all.  In this case one *leaves* the welcome
message as is so that the subscriber gets only that.

In either case, one needs to GET and PUT the listname.MAILTPL file to
accomplish the task.
