I'm not sending MIME/HTML. Pure text.

But I don't think that's actually relevant... by the time it would be
parsing the text of the message to extract a listserv command, it would
already have been delivered to the listserv process (and that's the part
that's failing).

Mail delivery logs don't provide me with a clue. If I send a message to
[log in to unmask], the SMTP logs show:

##########################

2018-06-29T13:18:59.393221-04:00 myhost.mydomain sendmail[26060]:
w5THIx94026060: from=<me@mydomain>, size=1371, class=0, nrcpts=1,
msgid=<f04a42ae-c33b-9480-f339-8ee9634731ff@mydomain>, bodytype=7BIT,
proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=smtp.mydomain [1.2.3.4]

2018-06-29T13:18:59.418961-04:00 myhost LSV:lsv_amin[26063]: Mail for
mylist (from 47/15600) delivered to LISTSERV.

2018-06-29T13:18:59.421364-04:00 myhost sendmail[26062]: w5THIx94026060:
to=<[log in to unmask]>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00,
mailer=listserv, pri=121371, relay=localhost, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent

##########################

That message is then correctly distributed by listerv.

But if I send a message to [log in to unmask], the SMTP logs show:

##########################

2018-06-29T13:25:08.811018-04:00 myhost sendmail[26620]: w5THP8vi026620:

proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=smtp.mydomain [1.2.3.4]

2018-06-29T13:25:08.845846-04:00 myhost LSV:lsv_amin[26623]: Mail for
listserv (from 47/15600) delivered to LISTSERV.

2018-06-29T13:25:08.848331-04:00 myhost sendmail[26622]: w5THP8vi026620:
to=<[log in to unmask]>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00,
mailer=listserv, pri=121330, relay=localhost, dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent

###########################

In both cases, the message was handed off to lsv_amin for handling. So
my listserv installation understand that 'mylist' is a currently defined
list, but it doesn't understand that 'listserv' should be treated as a
listserv command instead of as a mailing list.
