I've done this when our BITNet link to AU was down, but our Internet
connection was up. You just need to send mail to the LISTSERV rather
than trying to send messages.
 
Make sure that the "Owner=" is set to the Internet address from which
you'll be mailing commands. BITnet user who have access both ways can
add both their BITNet and Internet IDs:
 
Owner=XRJDM@SCFVM,[log in to unmask]
 
I believe there's a "QUIET" option that can keep one of the two
aliases from getting messages.
