You can set Notify= Yes in which case you will be notified if a subscriber signs themselves off. As far as the NOMAIL issue goes you could periodically issue a "Q listname WITH NOMAIL FOR *@*" or "QUIET SET listname NOMAIL FOR *@*"; the former tells you if any subscribers have set themselves to nomail and the latter will reset any such subscriptions to MAIL.
