The preference for sending email commands to listserv makes a lot of sense if you're used to command-line interfaces, and of course if you have very marginal interest in the Web. I still use line commands when I'm online from home. But I suspect an awful lot of list owners are (a) much more comfortable with GUI interface and (b) on the Web pretty much constantly, as I am from my office. I'm struck by how often I myself do things in DOS rather than with Windows, because it's what I'm used to. My students, however, do not share my DOS background, and want to drag & drop and point & click. I wonder increasingly how much my commitment to command line operations is really justified, and how much it's hanging on to the good old fashioned hard ways when you had to _learn_ something to operate a computer . . . -- Russ __|~_ Russell A.
