I was on a private eGroups list and we found out the hard way that it is possible for non-subscribed people to read the list archives. All they have to do is send in a subscribe command. Even if the listowner rejects it, they can still read the archives. I do host some other lists there where the information would be of no use to anyone who decided to eavesdrop, but I will not host a list there where anything sensitive is to be discussed.
