You can edit the aliases.names locally (and without the central registration)
but the next periodic update will overwrite and destroy the local changes you
have made.  Obviously this requires server admin privileges to do.  

You can also request the update via central registration, but this is only
accepted from Server Admins who are authoritative for their site/domain(s) for
secruity reasons.  

So if you are not a server admin, you can't do either of these methods and the
only course open is (as suggested by others) the dual subscription under
different addresses.
