>What I would like (and haven't found) is a setting where the subscriber >would receive the full text digest, and the subject lines at the beginning >would link internally to the digest post that they receive. This would >allow subscribers to choose to either scroll down on their own or jump to >the particular post that interests them. In fact LISTSERV(R) DIGEST does NOT create a one-to-one table of contents entry with the concatenated postings, but only provides one ToC entry for the same Subject: postings. > >Many webpages have such internal links on a given page. Is there any >reason that this can't (or isn't) done on email lists? *I* have been very satisfied (since I have a full-time Internet connection) with an e-mailed INDEX HTML distribution, and then clicking on "interesting" entries, which "scrolls" my browser to the full-text. Here is an example from the SPAM-L list: Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 08:53:49 -0400 Reply-To: Spam Prevention Discussion List <[log in to unmask]> Sender: Spam Prevention Discussion List <[log in to unmask]> X-PH: V4.1@f05n13 From: Automatic digest processor <[log in to unmask]> Subject: SPAM-L Digest - 21 Apr 2001 to 22 Apr 2001 - Unfinished To: Recipients of SPAM-L digests <[log in to unmask]> There are 7 messages totalling 210 lines in this issue. Topics collected thus far: 1. BLOCK: smtp*.wanadoo.fr 2. MISC: DUL blocking bad or good? (3) 3. Spam: Yet another Worldcom.co.cr/Sprint ripoff domain: www.goldendreamscasino.com 4. MEDIA: spam and blocking 5. BLOCK: my spam test scheme (was: who are the real abusers?) Notice that item 2. has a (3) appended. This represents that the Digest has three postings (not necessarily adjacent to one another). A single URL would not scroll to all three. Now the INDEX distribution option would have each and every article as a URL. Furthermore, if the first article is viewed via the browser, then the additional articles with the same Subject: are forward linked on the WEB page. /Pete Weiss @ Penn State
