There are few, if any, legitimate reasons to accept a list subscription request without sending a subscription confirmation request, in order to verify that the address is reachable, the address is the sender's delivery address, and the request was not forged. I believe that L-Soft should make necessary changes to the LISTSERV product to make 'Subscription= Open' and 'Subscription= Open,Confirm' functionally equivalent, i.e., either form of the statement will be accepted, for backwards compatibility with existing lists, however, LISTSERV will always send a subscription confirmation request, even if the 'confirm' parameter is not present. If it is felt that there may be legitimate reasons to accept a list subscription without sending a subscription confirmation request, then support for a 'noconfirm' parameter should be added to the 'Subscription=' keyword, however, its use should be restricted to the site administrator, just as the use of the 'Sub-Lists=' keyword is currently restricted. -- Paul Russell Senior Systems Administrator University of Notre Dame
