The sample you have shown is in HTML which has never been known as being particularly readable by humans. You basically have 2 options: 1) Require list postings to be in plain text. Just about all mailers have an option to send plain text, not all of them are easy to set that way. 2) Instruct your users to copy/paste or otherwise edit each post from the <HTML> to the </HTML> into a seperate ascii text file and save it with an ".htm" or ".html" extension, then open the file in a browser which speaks html. Neither of these will work well for the typical computer illiterate user. Other possibilities would be to tell them, "Don't use digest". You could have them try INDEX HTML instead of digest. This will give a list of posts and a link to ckick on to get the full post. Caveat: I don't know if this will expand the HTML. When you say that you see "wall to wall random characters", do they look something like: Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: <93A64357-599B-4B4E-890C-6E73481E760F> R0lGODlhFAAPALMIAP9gAM9gAM8vAM9gL/+QL5AvAGAvAP9gL////wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAACH/C05FVFNDQVBFMi4wAwEAAAAh+QQJFAAIACwAAAAAFAAPAAAEVRDJSaudJuudrxlEKI6B URlCUYyjKpgYAKSgOBSCDEuGDKgrAtC3Q/R+hkPJEDgYCjpKr5A8WK9OaPFZwHoPqm3366VKyeRt etc etc If so, there are attachments. Could be pictures or other binary files such as word documents. Again, the computer knowledgeable can pull these out, and Winzip (and probably other programs) can decode them back to the original. Not for the novices. } --part1_145.1231cb98.2c02820a_boundary } Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" } Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable } } <HTML><FONT FACE=3Darial,helvetica><FONT SIZE=3D2 FAMILY=3D"SANSSERIF" FACE= } =3D"Arial" LANG=3D"0">In a message dated 5/23/2003 12:43:19 PM Central Dayli= } ght Time, [log in to unmask] writes:<BR> } <BR> } <BLOCKQUOTE TYPE=3DCITE style=3D"BORDER-LEFT: #0000ff 2px solid; MARGIN-LEFT= } : 5px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px">sorts of over reactive laws } to=20= -- Rich Greenberg Work: Rich.Greenberg atsign worldspan.com + 1 770 563 6656 N6LRT Marietta, GA, USA Play: richgr atsign panix.com + 1 770 321 6507 Eastern time zone.
