The vast majority of the time it is spam IME, the spam addresses are used only once (at least within the time period LISTSERV looks at), and so the spam only bounces once. A filter can be used to strip all addresses that have only one error and get the desired functionality. A more sophisticated filter would look for a bouncing address in the subscriber list and discard any that are not found. A short Python or (ugh!) Perl program would do the trick. Speaking of which, is there a repository of contributed utilities for LISTSERV owners anywhere? It seems as if there should be. -rex
