It's not always happening, definately it is intermittent or sporadic, but seems to happen more often when things are sent with Outlook Express 5.5 than any other version of Outlook or Outlook Express (don't ask me why in the world are people still using express 5.5, I ask myself the same question). And I've noticed something similar to what you mention, Valdis. Sometimes people send commands to the listserv address and they come back as "command not found in body". I've done this myself many times, the only problem is, I'm not behind a firewall or gateway! Here's a sample from earlier, I sent an HTML command in and CC'd myself. First is the copy CC's to me in raw format w/headers: Return-Path: <[log in to unmask]> Delivered-To: [log in to unmask] Received: (qmail 23786 invoked from network); 31 Mar 2004 20:34:32 -0000 Received: from mailscan2.acsu.buffalo.edu (HELO localhost.localdomain) (128.205.6.134) by mail1 with SMTP; 31 Mar 2004 20:34:32 -0000 Received: (mailscan2 scanner-smtpd 1.35 1.8 1.15); 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 Received: (qmail 5277 invoked by uid 10227); 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 Delivered-To: [log in to unmask] Received: (qmail 5265 invoked from network); 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 Received: from smtp3.acsu.buffalo.edu (128.205.6.86) by front.acsu.buffalo.edu with SMTP; 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 Received: (qmail 15428 invoked from network); 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 Received: from starscream.cit.buffalo.edu (HELO starscream) (128.205.3.30) by smtp3.acsu.buffalo.edu with SMTP; 31 Mar 2004 20:34:31 -0000 From: "jrs1" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Cc: <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 15:35:02 -0500 Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0000_01C41735.BC15D730" X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 X-DCC-Buffalo.EDU-Metrics: mailhub.acsu.buffalo.edu 1029; Body=0 Fuz1=0 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0000_01C41735.BC15D730 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit show points ------=_NextPart_000_0000_01C41735.BC15D730 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Diso-8859-1"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 6.00.2800.1400" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>show points</FONT></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_0000_01C41735.BC15D730-- Now the reply back from listserv in raw format: --cQJRDcSSaZVSGFSEGHdBFKUWRaWDXO Your message is being returned to you unprocessed because no command was found in the message body. I cannot get listserv to read any listserv commands in HTML format from Outlook 2000. It does seem to work *most* of the time from the other various versions of Outlook and Outlook Express in HTML format, including the aforementioned Express 5.5. And that's about all I know so far. I guess my next step would be to download some additional email clients and use those to compose some more HTML formatted email and test those out. Hopefully then I'll be able to tell at least if it's a problem that only happens MS products. They get enough bad press as it is I just didn't want to assume it's their fault. I was really hoping it would be just a minor configuration issue on listserv. By the way, the MTA we use is qmail. If anyone can think of anything else for me to try, let me know. If you've actually read this far, then thanks for at least taking the time to read about my unsolved problem. -Jim -- Jim Serwinowski [log in to unmask] UB Listserv Administrator http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu
