Whether it is "right" or not, the statement is correct, that is what the law says. As to Donald Trump, I doubt he is trying to copyright it, as phrases such as things cannot be copyrighted (neither can titles of books, movies, songs, plays, etc.) I would imagine he is probably trying to obtain trademark rights, which are different from copyright.
