I am the co-owner of a discussion list with approximately 1300 subscribers. One of the subscribers posts a monthly statistical summary of list activity. The summary includes an Original Content Rating - the ratio of original (non-quoted) material to total material in the bodies of the messages. In recent months, the OCR has usually been in the 65% to 70% range, although it fell to 50% in October. Based on the amount of quoted material I see in both personal and list mail, I suspect that our OCR of 65% is unusually high, and I can understand why Douglas' digest subscribers appreciate his efforts. -- Paul Russell Senior Systems Administrator University of Notre Dame
