When I encounter a broken mailer, my response is along the lines of "I 
don't control it.  I can't fix it.  This is what's wrong.  Tell your 
recipient that they have to tell the mail administrator to fix it."  I've 
found I have to be fairly strict about this, or they'll want me to fix the 
remote site's mail server.

There are just too many broken systems in the world for me to worry about.
