You can even add a “subject” and a “body” to the mailto: and then the user simply clicks on SEND. Please note that this is a copied sample not a political statement.

Also, don't forget to tell potential subscribers to make sure their subscription notification and/or confirmation does not end up in SPAM.

Using a MAILTO function is more trustworthy compared to manual entering in a (bogus) email address.
