I think we need to find a way to make mail such as the thing below NOT be distributed through LISTSERV. Since acknowledgements are a standard form of mail, and I guess LISTSERV recognizes them and discards them, so, too, should these error-in-delivery messages. Some sort of standard is needed for them so that can be recognized for what they are by the various programs on the network, from delivery agents to user agents. ----------------------------ENCLOSED MESSAGE---------------------------- Received: from TCSVM(MAILER) by UIUCVMD (Mailer X1.23) id 8118; Sun, 27 Jul 86 20:37:50 CDT Received: by TCSVM (Mailer X1.23) id 0965; Sun, 27 Jul 86 20:33:41 CVT Date: Sun 27 Jul 86 12:20:04-EDT Reply-to: Protocol Converter list <IBM7171@TCSVM> Sender: Protocol Converter list <IBM7171@TCSVM> From: The Mailer Daemon <MAILER@CU20B> Subject: Message of 26-Jul-86 12:09:52 To: Dan Theriault <DANNO@UIUCVMD>, Phil Howard <PHIL@UIUCVMD>, Allan Tuchman <TUCHMAN@UIUCVMD> Message undelivered after 1 day -- will try for another 2 days: [log in to unmask]: Disk quota exceeded ------------ Received: from CUVMA.COLUMBIA.EDU (CUVA.COLUMBIA.EDU) by CU20B.COLUMBIA.EDU with TCP; Sat 26 Jul 86 12:09:52-EDT Received: from TCSVM(MAILER) by CUVMA (Mailer X1.23a) id 4798; Sat, 26 Jul 86 12:10:51 EDT Received: by TCSVM (Mailer X1.23) id 9858; Sat, 26 Jul 86 11:05:51 CVT Date: Sat, 26 Jul 86 10:56:11 CVT Reply-to: Protocol Converter list <IBM7171@TCSVM> Sender: Protocol Converter list <IBM7171@TCSVM> From: John Voigt - Systems Group Tulane <SYSBJAV@TCSVM> Subject: New listserver To: Local Redist. <[log in to unmask]> -------
