> I've recently seen some MAIL (single and on lists) coming through > something called "General Delivery" (and with an address of > <POSTMASTER@node>). Some of those came from VAXen ... This type of mail is produced when you have a VAX which is NOT on BITNET using VMS Mail and DECNet to send mail thru a VAX running Jnet which is on Bitnet. Here is an example of what such mail looks like when received on my VM system: --------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 23-FEB-1987 14:02 PDT Original_From: MAC::JXH(John Halperin) Comments: This is gatewayed mail. Warning: Mail may not necessarily be returnable through this path. From: General Delivery <POSTMASTER@SLACASP> Subject: test2 To: jxh@slacvm Original_To: ASP::JNET%"jxh@slacvm" ---------------------------------------------------- In the above example, I sent mail from our 'MAC' VAX over DECNet to Bitnode SLACASP which gatewayed it to SLACVM. Note the Original_To: and Original_From: lines in the header. These are your only clues to the original sender. Unfortunately, they seem to be getting removed by LISTSERV. I leave it to better minds than mine to decide who is to blame. // John Halperin Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
