We're experiencing distressingly frequent (2-3 times/week) occurrences of a situation where LISTSERV (1.5n) 1. finds a file in his reader he doesn't like 2. sends mail to MAINT and to me to that effect 3. attempts to purge the file (he thinks successfully, but he's wrong) 4. returns to step 1, etc., etc., etc. with the result that the spool file area fills up with thousands of files to MAINT and to me. Two kinds of files that can trigger these events are (a) files with no RFC822 header at all--just text, and (b) LSVPUT files sent with incorrect passwords. There are doubtless others. **BUT**: it doesn't always hap- pen. I tried to force an occurrence to get a better fix on the problem by SENDFILEing a file that had earlier caused the problem, but LISTSERV behaved perfectly, rejecting the file and sending MAINT and me just one message. This problem did not occur before we installed VM release 5 (which has been running for almost a year now). We are at HPO level 50, service level 510. I am new to maintaining LISTSERV and to LSTSRV-L, so all this may not be news to anyone. But we need help. Is there any solution short of turning LISTSERV off?
