As you point out, the amount of CPU which would likely be consumed by such requests as SUSPEND are probably small. Therefore, it is likely that a few regional servers (as opposed to a lot of "closest backbone" servers) could handle the load if they could handle the disk space for the centralized tables. If the network community feels that this is an important facility to have it seems natural to ask the respective NICs to take this on. I don't know how that idea would fly in EARN right now, but disk space is not all that expensive any more and I think we could talk BITNIC into agreeing to take on that role for the states. (Better something that requires disk space than people :-) Another machine might be able to handle all of Europe. So what if it takes a day or so for your request to be processed, the worst it means is some extra mail you didn't want or a couple of missed days at a time when you've already missed a lot already. /June To: [log in to unmask]
