If a list is configured in such a way that password validation is required to sign off a user, there is no way you can sign off the user without a password, and your request only causes a note to be sent to the list owner, to inform him that you would like this account removed. It is not a question of whether or not you have the "right" to delete the account, it's just that any student with an IQ > 70 or so can "be" you any day and send the command of his choice from your account, so the list owner may choose not to authorize this kind of commands if he deems such a security level to be necessary for his list. Unfortunately, too many (otherwise completely open) lists are configured this way; this is sad, but there is nothing I can do about it. If you really need to delete accounts from a particular high-volume list, you can do so by getting a password on that server. Otherwise, you just have to wait for the list owners to act upon your request. >If these accounts were still opened, I could unsub them all from all >lists, but not when they're closed. This seems like a silly restriction. And you would be told: "your request has been forwarded to the list owner", with the account remaining subscribed until the list owner takes action. No difference. > Oh, a few listservs indicated that the account I submitted this >program was not a NAD, although most acknowledged that it was and a few >acknowledged that I was a NAD a did some deletions as appropriate.
