We have an exec called "DIGEST" which takes a Rice MAIL notebook and generates an RFC 1153 style of DIGEST (except that I comment out the standard centered list of subjects and use a numbered list - that is easily modified). You can get the DIGEST EXEC from LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 (filelist LOCSOFT). Also available via anonymous FTP to vm1.nodak.edu, CD LOCSOFT . For another approach, some of our very active lists (in the KIDLink project) wanted a daily or weekly index of items instead of the items themselves. We did this with some software which generates database queries and then formats the results and sends them to a list (ie. the KIDCAFE list is indexed daily and sent to KINDEX, some others are indexed weekly and sent to KINDEXW). We also have a local command called /SHIP which allows a user to request an item by number without fussing with the database commands. These require some additional local work (ie. a structure to trigger the index build and invoke the exec against the result). If there is some interest I might be persuaded to put these in our locsoft filelist too. Marty
