Somasundaran writes : --------------------- BEGIN INCLUDED MESSAGE ------------------- ORACLE special function failure ----------------------------- I am facing a serious problem . When I start Oracle, it comes out with error : IOR: Special function failure. IOR: ORA-0402: invalid database file name. Oracle manual advises to specify a valid database file name for the DATABASE parameter in INIT.ORA. But I have been running Oracle till now with the same INIT.ORA file which takes default values for database file. No changes were made in INIT.ORA. When IOR LIST is done, the DATABASE parameter is correctly shown to refer database file in ORACLE_HOME\ORACLE_DBS directory. The database file DBS.ORA exists in the said directory. The Oracle in use is version 5.1.22.6. (single user). Is there a quick solution for this ? Your valuable guidance will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ....... M.Somasundaran, TIFR, Bombay, India ........... ---------------------- END INCLUDED MESSAGE ---------------- I ran ORACLE5 on MS-DOS. I don't I you are also but if you are : If you do an IOR LIST ORACLE 5 always shows %ORACLE_HOME%\%ORACLE_DBS%\DBS.ORA for the database parameter. Try to do IOR LIST PFILE=<Your init.ora> then you see the real name of the database file. IJke van Randen The Winand Staring Centre for Integrated Research on Land, Soil and Water.
