Lemmings? Fact A: LISTSERV is a mail repeater (among other things). Fact B: Internet can deliver mail to LISTSERV just as well as Bitnet does. A + B -> Fact C: LISTSERV can work in an Internet environment. I own a list running on our VM system. I personally subscribe to the list via the Internet from my own workstation. Mail from my list is distributed all over the world on many different network systems through our VM system's Internet and Bitnet connections and mail exchange gateways connected to these two networks. I also have a lot of X.400 subscribers. Their mail is also handled by LISTSERV. I doubt that LISTSERV is going to go away soon. It is a great system, and I haven't seen anything yet that comes close to its capabilities. I know nothing about how it is implemented, but from a user's perspective it seems to operate protocol independently. As long as you can get mail to your list, it doesn't care how it got there.
