I am list owner for CLIMLIST, a moderated list for climatologists run from OHSTVMA at Ohio State University. I have noticed today that the 'From:' header in some of the mails from LISTSERV@OHSTVMA (list reviews, 'output of your job' confirmations etc) are now carrying the following 'From:' header From: BITNET list server at OHSTVMA (1.7e) <[log in to unmask]> Other mailed notices have a 'From:' header which is similar but without the version number. Until recently, the 'From:' looked like From: Revised List Processor <[log in to unmask]> What I would like to know is whether there is a really good reason for this change as it is causing me a bit of inconvenience. For a start, the wrapping of the new 'From:' _with_ the version number is messing up the filter scheme I employ to direct all LISTSERV-originating mail to a special folder for later action. (The new 'From:' _without_ the version number doesn't wrap and is OK.) Second, the string '1.7e' is being interpreted by my mail system as the personal name of the sender, presumably on the grounds that this is an address of the form email_address (personal_name) Neither of these are fatal-type problems but they are irritating - hence my interest in whether there is a good reason for this change.
