Greetings! I co-own a list called Granola (soon to be VegLife) concerning the vegetarian lifestyle. The Cornell University News Services produces a monthly publication containing photocopied articles from magazines and newspapers that contain the word "Cornell." It's pretty cool. What I'd like to do is a similar publication, but with two important differences: a) anything with the word "veg"etarian/vegan (you get the idea) and b) publish it electronically. Would such a thing be legal and _how_ do I find out? I've tried contacting a few publications. The responses varied, but only one granted my request in full. Consumers' Union (publisher of Consumers' Report) said it couldn't handle such a request at this time. Electronically? Nope. Doesn't plan to ever permit that beyond what it already does on places like CompuServ. Beans! And Health magazine would only grant me permission to photocopy. They were happy to do that, but it ain't much good to me! The Vegetarian Resource Group granted me full rights to everything they produce. I was quite stunned by the offer actually. I'm sure people out there must post newspaper articles to your lists routinely. Or maybe not. :-) But what to do? Can we do it? Who's watching? Where's the big brother? Should I add at the top of such things "Reproduced here without permission" ? Any suggestions would be wonderful. I have a committee now forming and I'd rather not have them all be in a court of law someday. :-) Cheers! Chuck Goelzer Lyons Ithaca, New York
