>Here is the output of a REV from this morning. The address I am having a >problem with is [log in to unmask] John: Here is some abstracted info from a test debug distribute from listserv@psuvm for the list of addresses that your provided: GEOG.UBC.CA goes to UTORONTO (003) OCGY.UBC.CA goes to UTORONTO (003) - single recipient UNIXG.UBC.CA goes to UTORONTO (003) UTORONTO: MCGILL1 UTORONTO Since the above line means: to reach the UTORONTO LISTSERV host, you first send a LISTSERV-distribute JOB (via the LISTSERV Distribute Backbone) to LISTSERV@MCGILL1, which then in turn sends a JOB to UTORONTO. Bitnet node wise, that is psuvm <-> mcgill1 <-> utorvm <-> utoronto These '<->' means that the bitnet (adjacent) route is symmetrical (sometimes they are NOT :-( ). Now LISTSERV@utoronto sends all *.ubc.ca "stuff" to its local SMTP gateway: From UTORONTO(MAILER): * Host Server Punching Msg Error Avg Max Total From UTORONTO(MAILER): * (or alias) Node Userid Exit count count cards cards cards From UTORONTO(MAILER): * ============ ======== ======== ======== ===== ===== ===== ====== ====== From UTORONTO(MAILER): * .UBC.CA UTORONTO SMTPBLK2 BSMTP 00012 00000 The DNS for ocgy.ubc.ca is a little convoluted (4 authoritative Name Servers, but all consistent). ocgy.ubc.ca mail is really handled by MX 9 hub.ubc.ca. MX 7 nessie.ocgy.ubc.ca. with the preferred host being nessie. With regard to followup messages from you, the reason PSUVM does NOT show up in the RECEIVED lines is because PSUVM did not actually send the mail item directly, but UTORONTO's LISTSERV did (this gets back to the Distribute Backbone). Reviewing the RECEIVED lines that you provided, it is "clear" (assuming approx. accurate clock synchs) that it took 6.5 h for your message to reach the UTORONTO MAILER (aka @vm.utcc.utoronto.edu), then 14 h to begin processing on the SMTP VM at the same site! Once it had begun processing there, "nessie" received it a short time later (OK, earlier if you don't take into account PDT vs EDT and the slight difference in clock setting errors). Nessie forwarded on to NARWHAT in an expeditious fashion. > >From @vm.utcc.utoronto.ca:[log in to unmask] Fri Jul 22 06:54:15 1994 > Received: from nessie.ocgy.ubc.ca by narwhal.ocgy.ubc.ca via SMTP (920330.SGI /920502.SGI) > for lu id AA25621; Fri, 22 Jul 94 06:54:15 -0700 > Received: from vm.utcc.utoronto.ca by nessie.ocgy.ubc.ca (4.1/1.14) > id AA03371; Fri, 22 Jul 94 06:54:09 PDT > Message-Id: <[log in to unmask]> > Received: from vm.utcc.utoronto.ca by vm.utcc.utoronto.ca (IBM VM SMTP V2R2) > with BSMTP id 3424; Fri, 22 Jul 94 09:53:38 EDT > Received: from UTORONTO.BITNET by vm.utcc.utoronto.ca (Mailer R2.10 ptf000) > with BSMTP id 8573; Thu, 21 Jul 94 19:58:47 EDT > Date: Thu, 21 Jul 1994 13:23:14 EDT > Reply-To: [log in to unmask] > Sender: CLIMLIST Climatology Distribution List <[log in to unmask]> > From: John Arnfield <[log in to unmask]> The single biggest time lost is within utoronto.
