To whom it may concern: Please review the following proposal. As I do not follow discussion groups could you please respond to my private address at [log in to unmask] As a personal project and extension of a master e-mail directory I wish to start a listserv distribution mailing list for the following organization. The e-mail directory can be found at http://www.infi.net/~ravess/pike.html. About Pi Kappa Alpha_ Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is a non-profit organization based in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. Since March 1, 1868, over 160,000 individuals at 182 Pike chapters have made the decision to join Pi Kappa Alpha, one of the nation's largest and most prominent fraternities. Pikes are involved in all forms of campus activities and take pride in realizing their responsibilities to the surrounding community. Last year alone, Pikes raised over $17,000 for charity while contributing over 100,000 service hours to the community. Pi Kappa Alpha is a fraternity leader in community service. Pi Kappa Alpha provides its members with a structured scholarship program that places academics at the top of the priority list. The Fraternity's scholarship program is designed to help all chapter members achieve excellence in the classroom. Such a commitment to scholarship has resulted in Pikes all over the country being elected to membership into groups such as Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Mortar Board. The impact that members of Pi Kappa Alpha make during their college days goes beyond graduation. Pikes in all walks of life have achieved success that has lead to national recognition. Pikes are leaders in business, sports, politics and in the national media just to name a few. Simply put, Pikes are individuals of integrity. Not only do Pikes have a high level of respect for the men and women around them these attributes are fostered in every individual who joins Pi Kappa Alpha. Through sponsoring and participating in various social programs, Pikes remain continually aware of the need for ethics and values in today's society. Why a Listserv mailing list_ A listserv distribution mailing list would prove an extremely valuable and useful resource for the undergraduate and alumni members of this organization. The listserv would be an efficient method of distributing members queries, topics for discussion, announcements of new resources, new tools and charitable functions. Many people are very enthusiastic and excited about this concept. Six months ago I began a personal project by implementing a master e-mail directory for Pi Kappa Alpha. This resource is located at http://www.infi.net/~ravess/pike.html. Surprisingly, in two weeks over 75 members added their email addresses to the directory. Currently, there are over 500 who actively interact with this site. On average I am adding 10 names per day. Yet, the number one request I receive is for the services best provided by a listserv structure. The primary purpose is facilitate interaction but, also to aide in the development of web pages for chapters and individual members. I foresee it being utilized as a tool for enhancing active and alumnus communication, answering queries on a variety of computer related questions and a forum for a variety of topics of interest to every member. Initially, I estimate that the distribution list will have 500 subscribers. Yet, considering the same enthusiastic response from members to the email resource, the list could quickly grow to several thousand. Currently, we have over 160,000 active and alumni members with approximately 20% possessing e-mail capability. Initially, the largest group will be undergraduate and graduate students. I would not desire moderation or the maintenance of an archive. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Randall A. Vess [log in to unmask]
