I'm a computer specialist for a federal health agency. My institute wants to create a listserv for all grantees to distribute information. I believe at this point they are only wanting distribution and not a two way conversation. I've never maintained a Listserv and was wondering if someone could provide me with some estimates on admin time, machine size, etc. We are looking at L-Softs Listserve program to run on an NT 3.51 platform, currently was going to devote a 100 Mhz Pentium to this job. This list could be up to 4000 members (I doubt if all grantee's have valid email) - what kind of administrative time would you estimate someone would have to spend on list maintenance, I assume that would be bounced messages at this point. I have no feeling for listserv sizes - is 4000 large, medium. The lists that I've participated in have never been more than around 200 and the misaddress unsubscribes and subscribes can be maddening. So, if anyone has some numbers, general stories, I'd appreciate hearing what they've gotten us into to. Kay Cornwell Computer Specialist NIGMS/NIH Bethesda, MD [log in to unmask]
