LISTSERV uses a "distribute" technique. So, if there's a "bottleneck" between a "backbone" host in Europe and the nearest "backbone" host to your site, there is the possibility of a delay. Given that you're not paying for any of this TCP/IP traffic, I think that you're getting *great* service for "free", so don't "kill the goose that laid the golden egg". :-) > Confused and befuddled, > Ingrid Shafer <[log in to unmask] & [log in to unmask]> As usual, skip to the "bottom" and read to the "top". > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > Date: Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:43 +0200 > From: Mail Delivery Subsystem <[log in to unmask]> > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: Returned mail: Insufficient permission > > ----- Transcript of session follows ----- > authorise: > [log in to unmask] is not authorised to send to > unido^aol.com!brz > > For information, mail to [log in to unmask] > 550 <[log in to unmask]>... Insufficient permission 8. The "mailer" on 'PHILIPS.DE' (also known as 'SCAX18.PHILIPS.DE') generated the "not authorized" message, and, for some reason, chose *YOUR* ID (since it was available on a 'From:' tag ??) as the target for the E-mail, conveniently ignoring both the 'Sender:' and 'Return-Path:' tags, if, indeed, they hadn't been stripped by all this "forwarding". So, you should send E-mail to [log in to unmask], i.e., to the "list-owner", telling him/her that E-mail to Wilhelm cannot be delivered, and asking him/her to either: - contact Wilhelm, - cancel the "forwarding", - remove Wilhelm's ID from the KVB-L mailing-list. > ----- Unsent message follows ----- > Received: from pms-hh.philips.de by scax18.philips.de (4.1/PKI-3.0 (Domain)) > id AA00911; Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:43 +0200 7. The message came back to the 'SCAX18' host, which seems to be the "mail-gateway" between Philip's (Germany) network and the Internet-at-large. > Received: from pmshh07 by pms-hh.philips.de (8.3/Ultrix3.0-C) > id OAA29176; Fri, 14 Jun 1996 14:59:19 +0200 > Resent-Message-Id: <[log in to unmask]> > Received: from PMSHH07/MERCURYQUEUE by pmshh07 (Mercury 1.12); > Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:42 > Received: from MERCURYQUEUE by PMSHH07 (Mercury 1.12); Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49 > Received: from PMSHH07/MERCURYQUEUE by pmshh07 (Mercury 1.12) > for <de25brz@pmshh07>; Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:32 > Resent-From: [log in to unmask] > Resent-To: [log in to unmask] > Resent-Date: Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:32 6. The host 'PMSHH07' tried to "re-mail" the message to an AOL ID. > Received: from pms-hh.philips.de by pmshh07 (Mercury 1.12); > Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:49:30 5. 'SCAX18' passed the message to 'PMS-HH', while acting as the "mail-exchanger". > Message-Id: <[log in to unmask]> > Received: from listserv.gmd.de by scax18.philips.de (4.1/PKI-3.0 (Domain)) > id AA00591; Fri, 14 Jun 96 14:46:08 +0200 3. A copy was delivered to 'SCAX18.PHILIPS.DE', on behalf of the ID: [log in to unmask] Wilhelm Brenzinger Note that the host 'SCAX18.PHILIPS.DE' is defined to be the "mail-exchanger" host for 'PMS-HH.PHILIPS.DE'. So, it's to be expected that this has happened. > Received: from listserv.gmd.de by listserv.gmd.de (LSMTP for OpenVMS v1.1a) > Date: Fri, 14 Jun 1996 07:25:51 -0500 2. LISTSERV uses a "distribute" technique to get your posting to each subscriber. So, [log in to unmask], being a "backbone" node, was enlisted to assist in the distribution. > Reply-To: Kirchenvolksbegehren in Deutschland <[log in to unmask]> > Sender: Kirchenvolksbegehren in Deutschland <[log in to unmask]> > From: Ingrid Shafer <[log in to unmask]> > Subject: ENI-96-0320 > To: Wilhelm Brenzinger <[log in to unmask]> 1. Your posting was received by 'KVB-L', was processed by LISTSERV, and was distributed to each subscriber, including the KVB-L subscriber: [log in to unmask] Wilhelm Brenzinger How/when 'PMS-HH.PHILIPS.DE' got replaced by 'IONET.NET' is quite a different problem! Perhaps, the line read: 'To: Wilhelm Brenzinger <DE25BRZ@>', i.e., an "unqualified" name, and some software-bug picked the most-recent "suffix" ('IONET.NET') and attached it ?!?! > Date: Tue, 11 Jun 1996 15:56:43 +0200 > From: ENI <[log in to unmask]> > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: ENI-96-0320 > > Ecumenical News International > ENI News Service > 11 June 1996 > > Appointment of seminary head a first for N. Faith E. > ........................... REMAINDER DELETED 0. Given that the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) and the Lutheran Church - Canada do not ordain women, and that the president of a Lutheran seminary must be ordained, it's not surprising that the ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada) was the first to make such an appointment.
