Bon Matin, (And thanks to all of those that have already helped me on other topics, you are *A GREAT BUNCH* of mail sleuths) I am wondering if I hanfle those errort report correctly. I change the default semi-auto-delete to Full-auto on Oct 15th so 48 hours ago... Now I am not clear if thos reports will be handle when the 4 days default are elapsed for the accounts that LISTSERV was monitoring. Or if they are simply all the non-standard mailer errors talked in the manual. What boggles my mind is that even LISTSERV generate such errors, should I understand that LISTSERV generates non-standard errors ? I know it does not make sense so I am getting something wrong about that... But what ? And since I am bothering you with errors is it normal that COMPUSERVE.COM users generates 2 message by problem or this is 'cuz they have a weird mailer. The error notification generates and error itself 8-{ >>>>> begin sample 1 (I'll snip the text from the msgs that'll save a bit of bandwidth) The enclosed message, found in the BLUES-L mailbox and shown under the spool ID 0947 in the system log, has been identified as a possible delivery error notice for the following reason: "Sender:", "From:" or "Reply-To:" field pointing to the list has been found in mail body. ------------------------ Message in error (64 lines) -------------------------- Return-Path: <[log in to unmask]> Received: from BROWNVM (NJE origin SMTP@BROWNVM) by BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU (LMail V1.2a/1.8a) with BSMTP id 7374; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:05:48 -0400 Received: from arl-img-4.compuserve.com by BROWNVM.brown.edu (IBM VM SMTP V2R2) with TCP; Thu, 17 Oct 96 04:05:47 EDT Received: by arl-img-4.compuserve.com (8.6.10/5.950515) id EAA03452; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:10:22 -0400 Date: Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:06:19 -0400 From: CompuServe_Mail <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Delivery report for message to [101725,2577] To: Blues Music List <[log in to unmask]> Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> Sender: [log in to unmask] Received: from listserv.brown.edu (listserv.brown.edu [128.148.128.155]) by arl-img-5.compuserve.com (8.6.10/5.950515) id DAA23456; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 03:01:16 -0400 Received: from stanley.cis.Brown.EDU (stanley.cis.brown.edu [128.148.128.155]) by listserv.brown.edu (8.6.10/8.6.10) with SMTP id CAA06399; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 02:47:09 -0400 Received: from BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU by BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU (LISTSERV release 1.8b) with NJE id 0086 for [log in to unmask]; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 02:41:16 -0400 Received: from BROWNVM (NJE origin SMTP@BROWNVM) by BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU (LMail V1.2a/1.8a) with BSMTP id 5865; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 02:41:16 -0400 Received: from powernet.kopower.com by BROWNVM.brown.edu (IBM VM SMTP V2R2) with TCP; Thu, 17 Oct 96 02:41:15 EDT Received: from pm1-9.kopower.com by powernet.kopower.com using SMTP (8.7.4/6.0s-CAM); id GAA07322; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 06:35:30 GMT X-Sender: [log in to unmask] X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Version 1.4.4 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> Date: Thu, 17 Oct 1996 06:35:30 GMT Reply-To: mojo <[log in to unmask]> Sender: Blues Music List <[log in to unmask]> From: mojo <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: generations To: Multiple recipients of list BLUES-L <[log in to unmask]> <<<<< end sample 1 >>>>> begin sample 2 The enclosed message, found in the BLUES-L mailbox and shown under the spool ID 0945 in the system log, has been identified as a possible delivery error notice for the following reason: mail origin is listed in the "Filter=" list header keyword (or its default value for the BLUES-L list). ------------------------ Message in error (15 lines) -------------------------- Return-Path: <[log in to unmask]> Received: from BROWNVM (NJE origin SMTP@BROWNVM) by BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU (LMail V1.2a/1.8a) with BSMTP id 7372; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:05:45 -0400 Received: from arl-img-3.compuserve.com by BROWNVM.brown.edu (IBM VM SMTP V2R2) with TCP; Thu, 17 Oct 96 04:05:44 EDT Received: by arl-img-3.compuserve.com (8.6.10/5.950515) id EAA18480; Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:10:17 -0400 Date: Thu, 17 Oct 1996 04:06:19 -0400 From: CompuServe_Mail <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Delivery report for message to [101725,2577] To: Blues Music List <[log in to unmask]> Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> Message "Re: generations", sent at 03:17 EDT on 17-Oct-96, could not be delivered to [101725,2577] at 04:06 EDT on 17-Oct-96 because the recipient mailbox is full. <<<<< end sample 1 Another pain in the "glueteus maximus" from Inforamp.net I am also having 100s of bounces from messages dating from Agust 96 I tried contacting inforamp.net whitout any success. The quoting of all text is that because there is no *sure* of identifying message body in non-standard mail ? The traffic in my mail box went from 100-150K a day from BLUES-L to 3-5 MB a day ! I use Netscape and used to compress once a week, now I *must* compress (empty trash) twice a day ... You can imagine when a DIGEST user bounces and is quoted for 10 days... And when 10 users bounce a receive a 100 times the list "traffic". Same compounding for MAIL users: Most posts are rather shoert (half a screen) so quoted with 2 screens of headers it is 4 times the list traffic and for 10 bad addrees it is 40 times. Maths are a long way back in my memory, but isn't what they called a Nth Complexity polynomial problem ?... So my Question is there an option or a setup that lets a list-own trigger monitoring for a user and only receive a short (line or Kb size limited) version of those messages ? If Not, Is there plan to implement such scheme... I do understand that this a shortfall from administering from a PC rather than a "real computer" (IBM 4381,UNIX servers, oops DEC VMS systems too ;-). If you read this far than a real profound and sincere thanks... I am learning the ropes and swear to give back to the list what I recive from it...
