I have a list with ~600 regular subscribers (discounting digests) and
tonight's error summary report added 31 monitored users, all ".com"
addresses, all started today, but oddly enough, all single bounces thus
far (as we have ~30-40 posts/day).

I've seen this once before when one of the root DNS servers went awry.
However, at least two of the bounce sites contacted me by phone to say
that they had failed to renew their domain registry with the NIC and
their domains were down all day (by DNS resolution). Perhaps just a
co-incidence, but in case it's relevant, thought I'd mention it.
