I got that email a while ago and ignored it because I run a mailing list for chronically ill people who don't want to give the whole world access to their stories. But, I think it was nice of them to ask if they could subscribe instead of just coming in and doing so (unlike the people at archive.org who came in one night and spent two hours downloading my whole web site so that they could archive it forever, never bothering to ask my permission or read the copyright notice, but that's another list and another topic, isn't it.) I don't see the point in having some service like this. You can already make your list archives available in searchable format by email or the Web, if you put your archives on a web site, they are going to cataloged by at least two dozen search engines, including AltaVista, which catalogs everything (too much most of the time). I happen to think that there are too many search engines on the net already. Just my opinion. Karen Strauss
