Announcement May 15, 1997 Adonis, The Friendly Mail Servant Adonis is a user interface to L-Soft's LISTSERV mail server. In its current form, Adonis enables people to access a LISTSERVer via a web interface in order to execute the commands most often used like "review" and/or set the most often needed options, e.g. "nomail" when leaving for vacation. The advantage is the great ease of use that lets you operate LISTSERVs even *during* your vacation from any web terminal in the world, say, at a conference, at the airport, or on the beach ;-). The version you'll find on the web can serve as an interface to any LISTSERV worldwide but, for convenience to local users, it comes with a list of mailing lists predefined. These are lists run by LISTSERV at the University of Karlsruhe's Computer Center. A more general tool (extended to other mailing list handling software, or to an owner interface, even) might be developed in case of any significant demand coming-up. Well, indeed, it would have to be very significant. Adonis currently runs as a free service to the online community and any comments about enhancing its usefulness are highly appreciated. Its source code is not available (yet), mainly due to some embarrassment of its author, but I might be convinced to do otherwise, if you try very hard. ;-) Well, just give it a try starting at either: http://www.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/~listserv or directly at: http://www.nmr.embl-heidelberg.de/gherman/Test/Adonis.html Regards, Dinu Gherman PS: Sorry, if you receive this message twice! --- Dinu C.
